Android Things – Supported platforms


Discover the hardware platforms supported by Android Things. Learn more about each platform below and choose the one that best fits your app.

Developer kits, which include a SoM, carrier board, and peripherals, are also available to help you get started quickly.

Production platforms

Production System-on-Modules (SoMs) are fully supported for production use cases. Production SoMs are certified by Google to meet the security requirements for key and ID attestation and verified boot. Android Things stability and security updates will be available for a minimum of 3 years on all production SoMs.

Development platforms

Development platforms are provided to enable prototyping and testing. They do not meet Google’s security requirements for key and ID attestation and verified boot, and may not receive stability and security updates. Google will continue to provide feature updates to ensure that you can develop on these platforms and seamlessly port your code over to a production platform.

Physical vs. virtual SoMs

In our portfolio of SoMs, we support both physical and virtual SoMs.

A physical SoM is a core module certified by Google that you integrate into your final product design as a single component. Physical SoMs are good for low to mid volume products because they simplify the system design and can be purchased in single quantities.

A virtual SoM is a reference design provided by the chip vendors and certified by Google. OEMs can integrate the individual components of that design directly into their product. Virtual SoMs are good for high volume products where you need the flexibility and control to lay out the components to fit your board design and product dimensions.
